Diego Guzman and Amy Haines (Owner of Out of the Fire )
performing at Dancing for the Dogs 2012
Diego Guzman was born in Mexico, where he grew up listening to Salsa, Bachata, and Cumbia. As a child, he realized that he had dancing abilities during school events and family parties. In 2004, his family moved to the United States. His senior year of high school, 2009, he began to take ballroom dance classes with “Dancing on the Shore” on an after school program. Amanda Showell, owner of “Dancing on the Shore”, was Diego’s instructor. Eight months after taking his first class, he began intensive training with ballroom professional Amanda Showell and Aggie Beletksy. By the summer of 2010, Diego began working with Dancing on the Shore, as an instructor.
Diego has taught all over the Eastern shore including places such as Salisbury University. He has competed in amateur competitions in and around the Washington, D.C. area, winning first place at the University of Maryland College Park, the Salsa Room, and Havana Club. Diego has also participated in fundraisers, such as “Delmarva Dance-Off”, on three occasions. During these fundraisers he placed first two times and second once.
Congratulations to Diego on becoming Grand Champion at 2012 Dancing for the Dogs as well as 2011 & 2012 Delmarva Celebrity Dance off.
